Our goal is to help you become pregnant and have a healthy child. As part of this process when doing IVF, we want you to know about testing, screening and diagnosing embryos before they are transferred.
Women have the option to freeze their eggs or embryos now, so they can try to achieve pregnancy at a later time.
Infertility is a common problem for couples. Approximately, 15% of couples have difficulty getting pregnant after one year of trying. It is best to try and get a female and male evaluation. Our fertility specialists can assist you in determining the cause and plan a treatment that bests serves you as a couple.
You should first check and see how old your eggs are. We have developed an Egg Check Test to quickly determine this. From there, we can discuss your options, which may include freezing your eggs for future fertilization and/or freezing your embryos, both of which can be used at a future date to try to achieve pregnancy. A consultation with one of our board-certified physicians is recommended to further discuss pregnancy rates and various socioeconomic factors.
You can first start with our Egg Check Test. This test is designed to quickly check how old your eggs are. With this knowledge, we can determine how fast or slow your eggs are aging so you can plan when to freeze your eggs.
Our Egg Check Test involves performing blood tests and an ultrasound on day 3 of your period. We will then book you a consultation with one of our board-certified physicians to discuss how old your eggs are and together come up with a plan on how to optimize preserving your future fertility.
It is important for each woman to have a thorough history taken and a physical exam. Should there be a known medical condition or family history of problems, first ask your doctor if these issues may pose any problems while trying to get pregnant. In general (if there are no unusual medical, surgical, or family conditions), the time before seeking treatment with an infertility specialists is dependent on the woman’s age. A woman younger than 35 years can try on her own for up until 6-12 months. A woman between 36-39 years should try up until 3-6 months. A woman who is 40 years or older should seek treatment right away in order to optimize her chances of having a child.
There are some genetic tests that your OB/GYN doctor will automatically check once you are pregnant. However, if you or your partner have a family history of a genetic condition (for example, a relative has a genetic decease), it is best to talk to your doctor and get the tests done BEFORE you become pregnant. If it is known prior to conception that you carry a disease or trait, you can actually prevent your child from having a potential genetic disease. One method is done prior to conception by performing an IVF (in vitro fertilization) cycle with PGS (pre-implantation genetic screen) testing. The other method is post-conception by getting an amniocentesis or CVS (chorionic villus sampling) done when you are around 10.5-16 weeks pregnant.
